What happens when you get an email that your computer us infected? I usually ignore it until I realized it was my hosting server reporting it. This made me a bit more reactive, since I then realized all my sites were offline. Luckily it wasn’t anything serious.
After three days though they finally got the site up. They had to review that I cleaned it up. Seems they were in no rush. Granted they could have been busy although I would think something like this they would be more diligent. I held up my part reacting quickly but they didn’t seem to interested in doing the follow up that I cleaned the infection.
Needless to say few phone calls and numerous emails and they finally got me up and running. Oh the actual infected file? It wasn’t even infected but a comment that linked off page. This is common in comments where someone has spammed it with links to malware sites. Please keep that in mind when you are viewing comments on other sites. If the link is going somewhere else, then make sure it is a trusted site or at least the comment is legit.
I won’t go into to much detail on the service then tried to tell me I needed to purchase after the fact. Since I was affected they thought that this third party provider should provide me with additional protection. They really didn’t know that I support users for a living and have a good understanding of technology and how it works. It was funny the explaination that they try to tell as to why I need it. Again they had no idea on what the issue was, so the justification for why they said I needed was bogus. Ah well, worth a good laugh.
Anyways all back to normal. Now just need to get writing some more. Been kind of a writers block of late. I have started a couple of drafts and hopefully can get them done soon.
