Distance – it’s a bitch

With the couples that we have met over the past few years one thing is in common.  Distance is a factor.  Now we don’t go out to clubs and meet people.  True that can work, but for our selves we don’t work that way.  We have used dating sites and of all things twitter.  The couples we have met have been amazing.  There were a few road bumps but that comes with experience and a little bit of luck.

The funny thing is that all of the couples, and fwb included, are friends first.  We all get along well together.  That’s what works for us.  If we get a chance for some sexy fun great but if not we still have fun.  We can be ourselves and not have to hide who or what we are.

Our quad, poly couple, is 5 hours away.  We have made it work for two years and I see no change in how we are.  Sure there is jealously at times but that is more that we just can’t drive a short distance to hang out.  We make do with the time we have which is usually once a month visits.  We have learned not to plan anything with those visits since things change depending on what is going on.  We enjoy being together however it happens.

This goes for our long time couples and my fwb. Local is not something that I had luck in finding.  Well not easily.  If it does something changes.  What does not change is we talk usually on a regular basis.  It may not be every day but we still touch base with each other when our busy lives permits.  As I said friends first.  This is most likely why our fortunes over the past few years have been so good.  We are not into random, and the friendship that we have built is what keeps everything working.

Now family is also a factor.  Trying to balance demands and the lifestyle can sometimes be challenging.  Currently I have some changes in my personal life, extended family and work, that had distracted me.  This had affected my mind on writing.  Limited time, also getting sick, and then family emergencies has distracted me so I have not been in a writing mood.  Hopefully this week goes smoothly and if so I suspect I will get the writing bug again.  For now, I suspect my blog will be quieter, along with my twitter feed.  I am not going anywhere, just having to deal with some issues this week.  Once things are settled, then I will be back to my old happy Dr. Sweets self.
